The Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was the first home in Australia for up to 320,000 migrants from more than 30 nations between 1947 & 1971, it was the first, the largest and the longest-operating migration reception centre in Australia.
After the Second World War, Bonegilla housed temporarily almost half of the 170,000 people between 1947 & 1951.
After 1951, until 1971 Bonegilla received assisted migrants and refugees, operating as a migrant training and reception centre for a total of 24 years.
