New Documentary Careless Premieres at Melbourne International Film Festival

Quest Apartment Hotels supports Careless; A documentary shining a light on the gaps in Australia's aged care system.

Careless is an Australian documentary that explores the growing strain on the country’s aged care system, with a focus on families caring for elderly relatives at home. Sponsored by Quest Apartment Hotels, the film premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival on August 16, 2025 and is screening across Victoria in August. Directed by Sue Thomson and produced by Adam Farrington-Williams, Careless is part of a broader conversation about community responsibility for the elderly.

Careless, a feature-length Australian documentary, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in August 2025. It examines the Australian aged care system, particularly the challenges faced by families who are unable or unwilling to rely on institutional care and instead provide support for elderly relatives at home.

Told through the perspective of children, the film explores how these caregiving responsibilities affect family life, personal well-being, and long-term planning. It raises questions about the sustainability of current aged care models and the gap between policy and lived experience.

Quest Apartment Hotels is one of the proud sponsors of Careless, alongside VicScreen, the Shark Island Foundation, the Wicking Trust, and Screen Australia. Quest’s support reflects its ongoing commitment to engaging with socially relevant issues and supporting storytelling that highlights the lived experiences of Australians.

The filmmakers bring a blend of documentary expertise and social insight, aiming to elevate public understanding of aged care in Australia through storytelling.

Screenings across Victoria in August
