Construction commences at Quest's largest Australian property - Quest NewQuay

8 June 2017 – Quest Apartment Hotels is continuing its expansion in Melbourne, with construction commencing on Australia’s largest Quest property, Quest NewQuay, located on Docklands Drive in the NewQuay precinct of Docklands. Quest NewQuay is being developed to cater to the increasing need for apartment hotel accommodation that caters to business travellers in Docklands.

The established Quest Docklands apartment hotel property opened in 2005, and has experienced year-on-year growth from the business traveller market, in line with the array of large corporations moving their headquarters into the area, including NAB, ANZ, KPMG and Myer.

NewQuay in Docklands features waterfront dining, the Harbour Town Shopping Centre, entertainment and sightseeing opportunities and easy access to the city via the free tram network, cementing Docklands as a popular destination for both leisure and business travellers.

Acting Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne, Councillor Arron Wood, was on site to mark the occasion. He was joined David Hall, Chief Operating Officer – MAB and Quest Apartment Hotels Chairman, Paul Constantinou.

“This new Quest development at NewQuay is great news for the Docklands. It’s no secret that I am one of the most vocal advocates for the Docklands. Tourism continues to grow and t hrive in the Docklands and I have no doubt this new hotel will be at capacity when it opens.” said Mr Wood.

Paul Constantinou said Quest NewQuay is in line with the company’s national growth strategy and reinforces its commitment to meeting the needs of emerging inner urban business centres.

“With Melbourne’s accommodation sector consistently receiving occupancy rates higher than 80 per cent, Quest NewQuay’s location will be a highly appealing accommodation choice for visitors to Melbourne.Being only 20 minutes from Melbourne Airport and connected to Melbourne’s CBD by a free 10-minute tram ride, NewQuay is well positioned to cater to Quest’s key customer, the extended-stay business traveller,” said Mr Constantinou.

David Hall said Quest NewQuay will complement MAB’s existing developments at NewQuay, the mixed-use precinct it has been developing over the past decade.

“MAB’s vision is to turn NewQuay into an insp iring location – a space where people love to live, work, play and visit.” said Mr Hall.

The property will feature 221 studios, one and two bedroom apartments as well as facilities including conference rooms, business lounge, a gymnasium and outdoor terrace with barbeque area. Quest NewQuay will be located on the western edge of Melbourne CBD, and is expected to open in 2019. Quest NewQuay will be the ninth Quest property in the City of Melbourne.
