Your Route
What to pack
For this journey from Victoria's historic goldfields to the wild southern coast, pack for changing conditions and a mix of heritage, waterfront and outdoor experiences.
Essentials include comfortable walking shoes, warm layers and a light rain jacket, as Ballarat and the Great Ocean Road coastline can be cool year-round. Bring a camera for Sovereign Hill and the 12 Apostles. Pack swimwear or spa wear for Deep Blue Hot Springs, and smart-casual options for Geelong's Little Malop Street and Ballarat's wine bars. Binoculars are a bonus in whale watching season (June to October).
Explore Ballarat
With two Quest Apartment Hotels in town – Quest Ballarat Station, a short stroll from the train station, and Quest Ballarat, just minutes from the CBD's shopping and dining precincts – we're perfectly-placed to help, whether you're after a great cup of coffee or a recommendation for the prettiest walking route in town. Set yourself up in one of our modern apartments, then immerse yourself in all that historic Ballarat has to offer.

Journey Home
As your Great Ocean Road adventure wraps up in Warrnambool, there is no need to rush the drive home. The Princes Highway leads you back east at a comfortable pace, and if time allows, a short detour west to Port Fairy is worth every minute. Stop at one of Warrnambool's bakeries before you leave, or pick up a bottle from a local winery on the way. Let the drive serve as one last breath of coastal air before you settle back into the everyday.
