The Gabba Brisbane
The Gabba, or Brisbane Cricket Ground, gets its nickname from the suburb in which it lays, Woolloongabba. From the first match in 1896, this outstanding field has been hosting first class cricket matches and an array of sporting events. Over the years, The Gabba has been used for athletics, Australian Rules Football, baseball, cricket, cycling, rugby league, rugby union and soccer. It has also been host to many concerts, as well as pony and greyhound races.
A redevelopment of The Gabba between 1993 and 2005 increased seating capacity to 42,000 (39,800 for international cricket games). In 2006 a record crowd of 38,894 watched the Twenty20’s first match in the country.
Brisbane’s icon is easily accessible with free transport for ticket holders to and from the T20 Big Bash matches on the TransLink Brisbane Transport bus network and Queensland Rail train network.
