Rod Laver Arena located at Melbourne Park has been a longstanding concert Arena and home to the Australian Open since 1988. Not only does it host the tennis championships each year but an abundance of other entertainment events such as music concerts with the biggest stars and motorbike supercross. It has also hosted the FINA 2007 World Swimming Championships with a temporary 50 metre pool built on the floor of the arena.

In 1988 after a $94 million development was completed the National Tennis Centre was officially opened. That year the first Australian Open was held and afterwards AC/DC performed the first concert. The Australian Open is held every January and with a retractable roof, tennis games can continue in rain or shine. Corporate hospitality and function areas are also available onsite. 

The Arena has a seating capacity of 14,820 and welcomes over 1.5 million visitors each year. Located on the banks of the Yarra River, Rod Laver Arena is located less than 1 km from Melbourne’s CBD, easily accessible by walking or public transport. Richmond station is just a 10-minute walk connecting eastern and south eastern rail lines.
