Mackay is surrounded by fantastic sandy beaches that line both the northern and southern suburbs, all perfect for fishing, leisurely walks and watersports. Just offshore, to the east of Mackay, lies the Great Barrier Reef and Brampton Island. To the north is the magnificent 74 Whitsunday Islands and to the west, Australia’s largest sugar growing region and Queensland ’s largest Coal Mining region.
The Mackay Harbour lies just five minutes drive north of the city centre. The Harbour is home to some of Australia's best yachts, it has some fantastic dining options and is the launch point for fishing charters, pleasure cruising and travelling to nearby islands in the Southern Whitsundays.
