Some made their fortunes out of gold mines or manufacturing. Others grew democratic harmony in this new place. All built a city characterized by volunteering and community service. This is a city rich in stories of ordinary people striving to build a home and a vibrant community. From the 1850s through to now, Ballarat Heritage Weekend brings you the stories that inspired the City. Within the CBD there will be an exciting program of free entertainment, activities, performances, markets, tours and other heritage experience. Many of Ballarat's unique heritage buildings will be open for public viewing, including the Old Sacred Heart Convent opening their doors to the public for the first time in decades.
