The NRLW Sharks may only be in their second season, but they’ve certainly made their mark: by the end of their inaugural season in 2023, the team had the highest viewership in the league. And this year, with Quest Apartment Hotels onboard as the Major Partner and Front-of-Jersey sponsor of the NRLW Sharks, even greater things are anticipated.
At the 2024 season launch, Captain Tiana Penitani said she is particularly energised by the rookie players who are coming through. “It's crazy what they're capable of. I know there's quite a few of them that are nipping at my heels, and I'll do my best to stay at the top for as long as I can.”
Interest in the NRLW Sharks is just one snapshot of a growing movement, with women’s sports viewership overall now at record highs. And while that’s great news for the club, today’s players are keenly aware of what it means for the next generation, too.
“Growing up I was idolising the men’s players, and it’s not until I look back now that I realise that there weren’t any role models for me to look up to,” says Penitani. “That drums home how important our roles as current players are, and the message that we send to the younger generation.”
It’s this sentiment that makes Quest’s partnership with the NRLW Sharks such a perfect fit – gender equity is a key focus at Quest Apartment Hotels, with the company having introduced a raft of policies aimed at removing barriers to the full and equal participation of women in the workforce.
“It’s an honour to have Quest as our major NRLW sponsor, considering their genuine passion for women’s sport and equality,” says Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta. “Quest embodies our community-first values. We are proud to have such a respected organisation beside us on this exciting journey as our NRLW team prepare for their second season.”
In addition to being the Major Partner of the NRLW Sharks and the NRL Sharks, Quest is also the Official Community Partner of the Sharks Have Heart program, which runs rugby clinics for people living with disability, and engages with school programs that promote anti-racism and inclusion as well as healthy living for kids.
“Our partnership is an example of Quest’s brand belief that ‘everyone deserves a place to be themselves,’” says Anthea Dimitrakopoulos, General Manager of Brand and ESG at Quest Apartment Hotels. “By supporting these incredible athletes, we’re excited to be helping create a future where anyone with a passion for the game can thrive.”
“We are so grateful to have a powerhouse brand like Quest see the value in us and in women’s sport,” says Penitani. “Our values as a team align in harmony with Quest and I’m so proud to run out with them front and centre of our jerseys! We hope to build a long-standing relationship with our valued partners.”
