Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)
The Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane's South Bank is an art Museum which is part of the Queensland Cultural Centre. Open in 2006 as an extension of the existing Queensland Art Gallery, GOMA boasts an impressive 25,000 square metres of exhibition space, along with Australia's first purpose built cinematheque. Sydney-based architecture firm Architectus was commissioned to design GOMA after winning a competition and received the National Award for Public Architecture in 2007 for their design of the Gallery of Modern Art
Since its opening, GOMA has welcomed major exhibitions from internationally acclaimed contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Picasso and Ron Mueck to name a few. GOMA is also the co-host of the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, a major event for the arts scene of the greater region. The Triennial was originally created in 1993 by the Queensland Art Gallery with which GOMA now co-hosts.
GOMA is adjacent to Queensland Art Gallery, on Brisbane's South Bank just a short walk across the river from the CBD. Ample car parking is available on site if you are driving, at one of the three nearby carparks all accessible from Stanley Place. Public Transport also offers a convenient option to reach GOMA, with the Cultural Centre Busway station right next door. Bus 444 runs daily (Moggill to City) and stops at Stanley Place. The South Brisbane train station and the South Bank CityCat and Ferry terminal are also just a short walk away.
